In all seriousness the reason why I asked is because in 2 years I MIGHT move to Germany. I will export my STI over there if I do moveI will hitting 120+mph almost daily so just wondering if the STI is smooth and capable at those speeds.

yes, it will be able to do that just fine.

watch out though. the lack of speed limits in germany isn't as widely spread as people think it is. there are only certain sections of freeway.

yes, i was caught speeding there once (on camera, was not stopped; lucky me)
as was my friend when he took his brand new GTI over to germany to see how fast it would go. he came back home with an empty wallet.

im pretty sure the sti's were electronically limited to 155 as far as 04-05 i dont know bout the 08's. that is until your reflashed then its up to how they're geared, topping out somewhere around 167, right?... please correct me if im wrong, or way off, in which case i completely made all of this up.

If you Move to Germany, The Company you work should ship it over or pay for the car out right, Done right it will cost 5k in shipping and about another 1-2k for import charges/tax,If the car comes off the boat/shipper damaged you need to fight them to get it repaired, Try getting a up spec bumper over in Germany. Yes you would be cool driving a US spec car in Germany but what about the Recaro's that we do not get. You would be better off selling the car here and buying a used or new one. I have moved once to the UK and once to Germany. both time I sold the company I worked for gave me a great price for my car. This is what they did I went to a local dealer sold the car they would give me whole sale for it, but the company give my a check to bring it up to a private sale plus 2K for my trouble. When I got over seas I walked in to the dealer and got a new one.

Umm, I don't know if its really that complicated. I'm from Poland and I will be actually shipping the car there instead of Germany because my parents have a 2nd home there. We shipped out a Volvo and a Toyota 4runner there 3 years ago. We got a big shipping container brought to us, they left it in front of our house. We loaded two cars in there plus a bunch of other crap for my parents new house. With the cars you just have to have the car registered under your name for 6 months and of course paid off before you send it there. Did not have to pay any taxes since it was a used car. Overall we paid $2300 to ship.

Once you get reflashed with a new map that limiter in the ecu no longer exists?

The 2008 STI is gear limited to 174mph, assuming a 6700rpm redline, ratio of 0.756 in 6th, 3.9 final drive, and 25.7" diameter tires (245/40/18) approx. If the redline is restored to 7000rpm, the car should be able to hit approximately 182mph with the stock tires.

The 04-07, with stock sized tires (225/45/17), is gear limited to about 177mph. The ratios for 5th and 6th are the same for 04-08, so the top speed varies by tire size and redline.

.

aren`t there other things to consider before exploring these limits. like wheel and suspension strengh, down/lift force at high speed. are the stock components strong enough? high speed is not only about hp and being able to reach that speed , but also controling the car at high speed.

Um, obviously. I'm not advocating attempting those speeds in a stock car, I was just answering a question. Though it would probably be perfectly fine as others have done it here with stage 2 cars. The aerodynamics of the car are probably brutal for those speeds though.
